On a rainy cool night in Atlanta, what is a girl to do???? Hmmmmmmm………

Mexican food and a movie on the sofa????? (typical routine)

Check out a new wine bar??????

I decided to steer the car to the route of “new adventures” and head to Cellar 56 in Buckhead.  Surprisingly the traffic was rather light, given the crappy weather.  The shopping plaza where Cellar 56 is located was quite empty.  There is a nice courtyard with top 40 hits, playing.  The courtyard acts as the entrance to a couple of different watering holes and the Improv.  I can imagine that on a nice day, this spot is packed.  After I filmed my video spot I sauntered into Cellar 56 with a glass of wine on my mind.  I was greeted and seated at the bar as soon I walked in.  With only a few people at the bar it was the perfect time to chat with the bartender to get the low down.  Since Cellar 56 serves wine by the taste, half glass and full glass, I thought a wine flight would be in order.  The great thing was I was able to craft my own flight!!!  I love “old world” style wines, which typically refers to wine made in Europe, so I asked the bartender to select the wines for me.  With just a little bit of information (the flavor profile that I like; full body, fruit, spicy and dry), poured three half glasses.  Here are the wines I tasted:

Sangiovese _ Badia Coltibuono Chianti Classico 2010 – (http://www.wine.com/v6/Badia-a-Coltibuono-Chianti-Classico-2010/wine/124914/Detail.aspx)

Tempranillo – Sierra Cantabria (http://www.snooth.com/wine/sierra-cantabria-rioja-seleccion-2013-1/)

Valpolicella – Zenato (http://www.snooth.com/wine/zenato-valpolicella-classico-2012/)

I liked all three but the Valpolicella was my favorite.  When I did the “swirl, sniff, taste” I was hit with a deep red color, minerals, dried blueberries and a little spice.  The finish was dry but smooth.

For eats, I tried the spinach flatbread and the grilled lamb chops with a blackberry balsamic glaze.  Keep in mind, these are small plate serving sizes, which is also great when you want to try a couple of things or want to share with a group of friends.  Both dishes were very good, the lamb was my favorite.  The staff was very nice and attentive.

All in All, Cellar 56 will definitely stay on my list of spots to hit for a drink and a nosh, when on that side of town.

Cheers!
